Pontesbury & Stiperstones Newsletter

9th August 2024

“Through what is known as Ordinary Time – that is more or less from Pentecost to Advent – I like to use the old Book of Common Prayer for my daily prayers. Words, of course can come exceptionally familiar and can drift pass you with regular use but thinking of the current state of affairs – riots and fighting in the UK, war in the Middle East and in Ukraine, trouble in Bangladesh – everywhere you look there seems to be trouble and discord and yet the prayer I read every morning, the Venite (or Psalm 95) reminds us of something more fundamental

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;

  Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
   let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
    and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
    let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
    and we are the people of his pasture,
    and the sheep of his hand.

Our God is a great king above all gods and we can trust him wholeheartedly with the future.

Prayer Gathering – Thanks

Please continue to pray for the broken-hearted, for justice and peace, and for government, police and community leaders.
