Pray Bake Read
PRAY….intentionally for your local school
BAKE….a cake for staff every half term
READ….1:1 with a student once a week
Pray Bake Read is a project we have adopted from the Lichfield Diocese. It is a ‘It does what it says on the tin’ project. We have a local primary school in Pontesbury and as a Church we intentionally ask about and Pray for the needs of the school as well as thanking God for its accomplishments.
We Bake at least 1 cake for the staff every half term (which goes down very well).
We Read 1:1 with pupils. Volunteers are given a DBS check and can then choose how long they want a reading session to last, and how often they go into school, this is usually either weekly or fortnightly.
At the moment, volunteers go in to school weekly and do 1½ hours in an afternoon. This means that we work across the year groups enabling the pupils to be heard while they read. The school has said how beneficial this is to the children, and are appreciative of the time we give, as well as the cake.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with this project, so if you are interested, contact Allen Marsden 791822 and we will get you DBS checked, and once this is completed, introduce you to the school and get you started.
